The first mobile phone I ever purchased was in grade 8. It was the Motorola V2288E and I thought I was the coolest person. It was pay-as-you-go and from what I recall, $25 (which is a lot of money for someone that age) could get you a few minutes of talk and about 30 text messages. Because it was so limited, every text message had to be intentional. Or at least what I thought was intentional at 13.
Sup.
It wasn’t until high school that really the coolest device was the Sidekick made famous by The O.C. and synonymous with the early 2000s. I couldn’t afford one. And I really wanted one. Millennials should be interviewed by Gen Z as we lived through the zeitgeist that matters most to them and we have stories to tell.
I have been texting for about 2/3rds of my life and I have a clear definition of what texting is for. If my teenage years would have been frivolous text messages, then my 20s would have been full on conversations (I owned a Blackberry Bold 9000 and my first and last iPhone 4). Now that I am in my late 30s, the evolution of texting is for sharing articles. Memes too. And ultimately to make plans. To meet in real life. To tell each other gossip, stories that otherwise just doesn’t translate in text messages.
I don’t want to have full conversations over text.
One caveat is that I will tell whole stories if the person doesn’t live within close proximity to me. If you live in the city and ask me what I have been up to I will respond with “let’s catch up.”

Soo Joo Park, WHO IS ICONIC, makes a cameo on KATSEYE’s Gabriela music video. My theory is she got the cameo because Humberto Leon, ALSO ICONIC, is KATSEYE’s creative director. The song is pure unadulterated pop. Reminds me of peak Ariana Grande.

Adobe rating lowered to sell. Blame Midjourney and the wave of new AI tools. A failed merger with Figma. Figma expected to IPO. Designers already hate Adobe as they feel trapped in its ecosystem. I don’t love that AI is to blame but at the same time Adobe’s pricing model is extortion. Remember the good days of a one time license fee!
I am phasing this out and as I get older. That one social justice and peace studies class I took in school really took a toll on me lol
trying to be happy in an ENRAGED world I think we’re all trying to move in this direction. Constantly being sucked into nihilism does nobody good for their mental health and to living a happy life.
