Hi,
Winter has officially arrived and brought snow along with it. It went from 15 degrees to -2 in a matter of a few days. You will not find me wandering the city in this weather because that is not what I am capable of. I stand firm that winter is for being recluse unless I have a clear agenda of where I am going when I have to leave the house. If you are hosting a party, I want an invite.
Natalie Laura Mering, professionally known as Weyes Blood, is releasing her 5th LP album tomorrow. This is the follow up to her acclaimed 2019 album, Titanic Rising. That album secured me as a devout fan. And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow sits at 46 minutes and 30 seconds which I think is 15 minutes too long (a theory I have that albums should be no more than 10 tracks and not longer than 35 minutes). While the album itself is long, the track list is exactly 10.
I have this other theory that if music is not enjoyable on first listen, then that’s good music (some caveats of course). And music that is immediately good is really just generic, but not necessarily bad. It’s just boring and formulaic. Weyes Blood falls in the former. Two of the releases, It's Not Just Me, It's Everybody and Grapevine I thought were not great at first listen. However, she has won me over time and time again. This week, she released God Turn Me Into a Flower. I hate it, but I will eventually enjoy it. I discover new things every time I play her music. Whether it’s her new releases or previous albums.
“It’s about the power of having your heart so broken that it would emanate a light.” - Weyes Blood
Ok, I am not good at writing music other than recommending good music. I am more than excited for the release of this album that I might just pop open a bottle of wine (breaking my own rule) and listen to her music while lying on the floor. A really good Friday night plan.
And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow will be released on Friday November 18. Add it to your events calendar.

The Age of Social Media Is Ending at The Atlantic. // That was a terrible idea. As I’ve written before on this subject, people just aren’t meant to talk to one another this much. They shouldn’t have that much to say, they shouldn’t expect to receive such a large audience for that expression, and they shouldn’t suppose a right to comment or rejoinder for every thought or notion either. From being asked to review every product you buy to believing that every tweet or Instagram image warrants likes or comments or follows, social media produced a positively unhinged, sociopathic rendition of human sociality. That’s no surprise, I guess, given that the model was forged in the fires of Big Tech companies such as Facebook, where sociopathy is a design philosophy.

Happy Birthday Andrew. Who is he? What is he doing? Does he exist? Did I make up a new friend? Does he have a LinkedIn account? Is it even his birthday? Is this cake from DALL-E?
It has come to my attention that Ed Sheeran has TWO sold out shows at Rogers Arena. The venue holds 53, 506 seats. Multiply that by 2 and you have over 100K people, over two days, flocking to see Ed fucking Sheeran. 1. I don’t know a single person who likes him. 2. His music is just really bad.

Is this not the saddest story you will read this week? It breaks my heart for Pumuckel. 20-inch pony left long-faced, must wait to be crowned world’s smallest horse at Live Science. Try not to cry. // A 3-year-old male Shetland pony named Pumuckel has narrowly missed out on officially being named the world's smallest horse due to a technicality.

A staunch advocate for anything but cars. I will admit I find cars fun.

Ended up ordering plates from Our Place. So far no complaints. Sturdy with good weight. Could even be used as a platter. They arrived rather quickly. Turns out it was shipped from Mississauga.
40 minute trek to work in the snow. New winter, same coat. 6-7 years now? I might get this COS coat if they have it in store.
Not officially a Weyes Blood song, but it might as well. I discovered it a few days ago and can’t stop listening.
