Welcome to the Gaybourhood
Hello!
If you are reading this, you have been forcibly coerced into subscribing to this newsletter. I appreciate that you are allowing me to infiltrate your inbox next to, what I can only imagine, is junk mail that you will most likely hit the delete button on. I only hope this newsletter isn’t one of those.
I listened to Phoebe Bridgers’ whole album while writing this week’s newsletter. It is a contentious subject to my relationship with my partner, Daniel.
A few years ago, I started a newsletter called, User’s Guide, with a friend I met in retail a few years back. She also happens to be the second person who subscribed to this newsletter back on May 6. User’s Guide was a newsletter about a guide to living. Correct me if I am wrong. The newsletter eventually succumbed due to it plateauing. It might still be around somewhere on the Internet. If you look hard enough on the Internet again, my LiveJournal might be lingering around from high school.
BUT HERE I AM AGAIN!!!
I am a bit rusty writing again, but I am hopeful it’ll be like riding a bike. I am by no means a professional writer or acknowledge to know what I am actually doing. This is true to life as well.
This newsletter will be relatively concise. Straight to the point. Direct. It’ll be a mixture of writing, pictures, screenshots from my phone (because why not), links, a playlist to balance everything out. You have subscribed to this newsletter, now what?
Below, I copy and pasted what this newsletter is about directly from my about page:
What is Life of Gay?
You are here because you are part of the LGBTQ+ community. You could also be here because you love the gays. Maybe you have a gay person in your life or adjacent enough that you feel like an ally. Life of Gay, also known as LOG, depending how many letters you feel like typing, is a newsletter by Perry Phalla.
LOG in its most authentic form is part humorous and part forthright. I have always felt like I never assimilated to gay culture and have always felt like an outcast in my own community. This has shaped the way I navigate the world and how I project myself.
This newsletter will be short-form, accompanied by a lot of arbitrary photos. Potential subjects might include, but not limited to:
How to get get dressed
My SSENSE shopping cart that I can’t afford
My affinity for female singer/songwriters
Copious screenshots
Living with a cat
Hyper-masculinity in gay culture
My love for Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Banh mi recommendations
What I did in a week (huh?)
What I did in a day (sure?)
Newsletters will be published every Thursday. If you know someone who would love this newsletter. Please coerce them to subscribe. Right now it’s just my contacts from my phone.
Thanks for coming!
Perry
