Welcome to LoG’s annual Pride check-in. I have been writing about Pride since 2022 and after a quick reread, it was excruciatingly painful to look back at past writing. Always nice to bask in some humility. This year’s check-in feels exceptionally boring.
My strategy every year for Pride is to not make any plans. Purchase any tickets. Commit to nothing. This is my general approach to getting dressed and traveling. I decide the day of based on how I am feeling that morning. It leaves little room for disappointment.
Through a quick oral survey, the general consensus is that people aren’t interested in doing too much. I don’t party. But love to people watch. I hope someone tells me gossip this weekend. A one event maximum is the sweet spot in the spirit of exercising our gay rights.
Happy Pride!

I have given Haim’s new record, I quit, a few listens over now and I am rating it a 6.5/10. The album is good, not great. What would make it better would be editing out a few songs to make it sound more cohesive. Though enjoyable, Try to feel my pain, Spinning, Cry and Blood on the Street sounds more like covers than original songs. Favourite tracks: Down to be wrong, All over me, Relationships, Take me back, Love you right, Everybody’s trying to figure me out, Now it’s time. I actually thought Million years was a Caroline Polachek track.
Lykke Li releases Covers EP. The lyrics to Stand By Me are really well written.

Dilly White Bean Cucumber Salad was perfect during the heat wave. I didn’t want to spend $3 on radishes so I just used red onions which complimented it perfectly.
Venturing into Portuguese wine and this was fine. Good. Could have used more of a punch. A mineral taste would have made it great.
Went to Sushi Momo a few weeks ago and it was ok. Underwhelming. I am for CRAZY TWISTS but Japanese food needs no western intervention. The Italian wine was really good. It has minerals!
Trump’s military parade is a warning at Vox // If you have an institution that controls the overwhelming bulk of weaponry in a society, it always has the physical capacity to seize control of the government at gunpoint. A key question for any government is how to convince the armed forces that they cannot or should not take power for themselves.

Why the French Don’t Obsess Over Purpose I think I am French. // In France, there’s no guilt in doing a job because it pays the bills. Or because it gives you your evenings. You can be excellent at what you do and still have no desire to talk about it over dinner — which is very much the case with my husband, who bans work talk at the table. At first it felt strange. Now I love it. We talk about where we want to go next weekend. What we’re reading. What to cook.

How (not) to track your health I have a lot to say on this and I am staunchly against wearable tech devices on your own accord. Ahem, smart watches… Another day… Alright I think they’re stupid. I had to say it. I don’t want to be constantly on. I am always thinking constantly about being offline. Not available. We need more agency. Your data is worth A LOT of money.
I leave you with this:
Love the shirt, it looks so great on you! You look great in it!
And thank you for linking articles - I just read three of them. Particularly tickled by Torres’ metal tree cutouts.. I didn’t think that was possible. The blue room!
