Hello!
The long weekend is tomorrow and this week has felt like an eternity getting to this point. I am not religious, but I will gladly accept any holiday where you get time off. On the bright side, the weather is nice and I have been sporting sandals to take out the garbage and recycling. That means something.
New York based menswear label Bode, pronounced bow-dee, has been floating aimlessly in my mind the last couple years. I guess since its inception since it launched in 2016. The brand was conceptualized by Emily Adams Bode, who was born in Atlanta, Georgia and oscillated time with Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She studied menswear and philosophy at Parsons and Eugene Lang under The New School. Her parents brought her along to antique shops that has influenced her brand philosophy and designs.
You may know Bode for dressing Lorde at the 2021 Met Gala.
Fun fact: her husband, Aaron Aujla, is Canadian and designs the Bode shops. He went to Western University so we may have crossed paths at one point (probably not).
Bode is a playful brand that is tethered with sentiment and nostalgia. Garments that look as if they’ve been sourced from vintage quilts and decades old dead stock fabrics. There are comfortable jackets with beading throughout. Shirts emblazoned with lobsters that tie back to her summers in Cape Code. They are clothes you don’t want to take too seriously, but firm enough for their attention to detail.
I really want to love Bode, but there’s a few things that’s pushing me back. The pieces can look dated really quickly if styled and fitted improperly. I appreciate the playful aesthetic, but I fathom the wear-per-use doesn’t stretch very far. I am highly certain if I wore this people might mistake me for a lost child and someone will have to alert the authorities.
Bode really has something good going. Fun, quirky and vintage inspired. It has stayed true to its philosophy in that capacity. And while in a different multiverse I would sport Bode every day of the year, for now I can appreciate from a distance.

The trailer for Marcel The Shell With Shoes On by A24. Reminds me of my early 20s when the short came out. Huge fan of Jenny Slate.

Why Electric Cars Won't Save Us at Our Changing Climate. Invest in public transit. Buy a used car. Walk. Bike. Doug Ford gave drivers an incentive by not having to renew license plates. As for people who take public transit, it’s still expensive as fuck and don’t get me started on bike lane infrastructure.
Shit, manatees mean more to Floridians than LGBTQ+ (especially trans) people. Trying Everything, Even Lettuce, to Save Florida’s Beloved Manatees for The New York Times. Fun fact: they’re loosely related to elephants! But seriously, save the manatees AND LGBTQ+ people.
Touring a Stunning Cliffside Mansion Overlooking the Pacific Ocean! on Enes Yilmazer’s YouTube channel. The architecture is really phenomenal. The indoor/outdoor living spaces is what makes it stand out. And the infinity pool. Bedrooms and bathrooms are pretty mediocre.

9 Ways to Imagine Jeff Bezos’ Wealth for The New York Times. An interactive and highly enjoyable piece by Mona Chalabi.
The Fortunes of MacKenzie Scott also for The New York Times. Very long and worth the read. I find philanthropic giving very fascinating and Scott’s anonymous approach feels altruistic in nature. Rich people will find this controversial, but all giving should be anonymous and not tax deductible. But most donors give for clout and a tax receipt.

About 5 or 6 (can’t remember!) double tequila sodas. Please cut me off at 3. A 30-something can't handle that much alcohol anymore.
Khao San Road’s pad see ew because I can’t be bothered to cook on a Saturday night. Always consistently delicious.
A very cringe and not funny episode of Saturday Night Live featuring internet boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal. I did enjoy Trend Forecasters with Aidy Bryant and Bowen Yang. That’s all.
