Homosexual Agenda coming in hot like a Supreme drop. Are the kids still buying Supreme? Grab a coffee because it’s a long one. It’s been almost one year without Instagram and I love that I know nothing as it happens. I am still on Twitter but I barely use that and it’s all tech shit. I also stopped reading the CBC because I found myself wanting more critical analysis from the reporting instead of centrist bullshit. Give me my tax dollars back.
Music has been just ok lately so I have been listening to a lot of podcasts. Most of the pods are pretty chill and unserious in nature and so I end up walking around the city listening to the pods laughing/smiling and I am in my head thinking people are looking at me weird.
Should we start reclaiming the word faggot? I feel like Jordan Firstman said it with such conviction and pride. I feel like it could be empowering.
Cheers to John Tory resigning! I love that for him.
Chloe Sevigny opened for Proenza Schouler and we can officially close fashion month right here. Also, Vogue Runway now requires a subscription and now I officially have no reason to visit their website.
Five Bode Obsessives on Why They Love the New York Brand at AnOther. If I may interject, I have been obsessed with Bode for years. I love their whimsical nature and the playfulness of the brand. It’s focusing on craftsmanship and not taking itself too seriously. If only I could afford some pieces. Send money!
In dire need of an office chair and I think this is THE ONE!
ARE YOU COMFORTABLE KNOWING WHAT A DESIGNER BAG IS REALLY MADE OF? at 1GRANARY. At one point I wanted to spend $1000 on a Jil Sander bag, but it was really just a rectangle bag with the logo stamped on it. I then realized at that cost, it needs to warrant craftsmanship and good design. Which I felt the bag checked off at least one. // People still think leather is a luxury item and assume a high price tag comes from the high quality. That €2000 is what you’re paying for the celebrity endorsement, the marketing, and advertising – it’s really just mediocre leather.
Impulse purchase on the walk home from work on v day. Which I do not celebrate, naturally. 8/10. Highly recommend! Honey’s x Bad Attitude Bread. I should put in an order with them. I had their cookies once and they were divine.
The Fleishman Effect at The Cut was a very digestible and fun read. From the surface, it’s easy to discount the piece and not feel sorry for upper-middle class women and it is. But looking at it from a sociological lens, money doesn’t buy happiness and we all just want to be accepted by our community. Instead, a capitalist modern society tells us what we have is just never enough.
I kept getting ads for 80 for Brady. I don’t trust the film 80 for Brady because Tom Brady is a Trump supporter and therefore these seniors are also Trump supporters and they must be stopped.
I am not a fan of Throwing Fits pod because the hosts are obnoxious Hypebeasts type dudes who would think Demna is god, but the ep with Avery Trufleman was comforting. It could just be the sound of her voice. It’s very soothing and could definitely be categorized as white noise in a good way.
Really they should have the same rights and dignity as humans. Great listen!
The biggest animal welfare crisis you’ve never heard of at Vox. I am finding that there’s more attention in the media about general animal welfare these days. // animals aren’t inanimate widgets on a spreadsheet, and when they’re hauled hundreds of miles by land and sea, they’re treated as cargo, not passengers, which means their welfare is the least of anyone’s concerns
It has come to my attention that the Alberta government deletes their emails after 30 days. Sus, but not surprised.
I guess I am going to start painting water colours now thanks to Substack recommending this newsletter: How to Paint Like Hayao Miyazaki at Animation Obsessive. So g damn cute.
Of course I read Caroline Polachek Loves Mess at Vulture and to be frank it was pretty boring. I have low expectations for the new album especially with how cringe Welcome To My Island is.
I haven’t worn deodorant in probably over 15 years and you should stop too. Should I explain further? Mina Le discusses the cult of cleanliness.
Inside a Cave-Like Soho Loft That’s All About City-Chic Brutalism at AD. If I could give some warranted design advice to these gays: get rid of the columns. They’re atrocious. Otherwise, nice place. $7M USD?
I will admit, I am enjoying Miley Cyrus’ Flowers. I really dislike the workout scene in the video. I was embarrassed for her and I hate the feeling of being embarrassed for other people. But I love the natural lighting when it hits 2:28. Also, did she hop on the buccal fat removal trend? I somehow watched this whole video on why a doctor stopped performing buccal fat surgery.
Imagine you are J.R. Moehringer and you are a Pulitzer winner and you got paid to ghostwrite Harry’s memoir…
Why all “eat the rich” satire looks the same now at The Face. // films like Glass Onion and The Menu look pretty and allude to legitimate critiques, but they’re performative and shallow in their criticisms.
The Face also has a pod and I listened to this ep featuring Raye and Mutya Buena (of the Sugababes, if you know you know!). In short, the music industry is designed to fail women.
Nothing Drains You Like Mixed Emotions at The Atlantic. I know where I firmly stand on a lot of positions, but I sometimes find myself never giving direct answers because what fun would that be. There’s always a caveat. // a truly meaningful life is one filled with all types of experiences and emotions, including those we find disagreeable. // Rather than trying to think more dichotomously, lean into the zone of mixed emotions, which psychologists call “dialectical thinking.” This is the attitude that opposite emotions are normal and compatible. Some cultures are better than others at dialectical thinking—and my wife is right that Americans tend to be especially weak at it.
Sesame seeds: underrated
Life was much better back then. How Well Do You Remember Y2K Trends? at The Cut. My score below means I have a responsibility to share my knowledge.
The Last of Us is nothing and everything I want from a zombie show. Episode 5 finally gave us zombies en masse and it was glorious. I watched SNL a few weeks ago and Pedro was hosting and there was a “daddy” skit. And I was like what the fuck is this. And after reading an article on him recently, I finally get it. The faults of not being chronically online.
For Lemaire f/w 2023, they ask, can you wear a sweater as a scarf? And the answer is yes. Move over balaclavas!
Emma Chamberlain is the new face of Lancome and honestly she’s really annoying in this promo video. Maybe it just feels like she’s an entitled American abroad?
Did you watch the Poker Face episode with Chloe Sevigny??? It’s iconic.
Finally gave Santigold’s Spirituals a listen and it’s actually great and fun and I wish she didn’t cancel her tour. But I get it, every artist these days are performing at a loss.
This warm olive (+ artichoke hearts) tapas I put together. It’s actually quite easy to make, looks fancy and it tastes like you went to Bar Isabel. Made it extra special by adding vegan feta from Plant Ahead, but it wasn’t my favourite. I prefer the Farm Boy version better. It’s saltier. 10/10 you should try!
America, we’re just like you. Doug Ford’s Conservative Ontario Government is Hellbent on Privatizing the Province’s Hospitals at Jacobin. It’s honestly a sad state of affairs and I feel like no one cares.
This Penn Badgley interview on Seth Meyers melts my heart. Anyone watching You??????
