This edition of Homosexual Agenda is sponsored by season 6 of Selling Sunset. If I don’t respond to emails, text messages, phone calls on the weekend of May 19, it’s because I am nursing a bottle of chardonnay and my eyes are glued to the screen. Might I suggest Emma’s vegan empanadas for the launch? Only $99 (USD) for 36 pieces.
I went to cancel my NYT subscription of $20 a month only to renew it at the rate of $2 a month. Honestly should have just cancelled but swayed by the retention powers that be of a discount.
Finally completed the book Less after dropping it, picking it up and repeat over two years. I think it had potential had I followed a consistent reading pattern.
This live performance (unfortunately, audio only) of Lykke Li at Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. EYEYE is honestly an underrated album. On the market for a record player because Daniel and I want to start having friends over and putting on really good albums. Like this one. When was the last time someone invited you over to listen to music? Ok, I want this Pro-Ject record player but I can’t manifest $871.
GQ has taken such a pivot that one can call it progressive from its heydays. This new peice: Meet the Surprisingly Young Guys Showing Off Their Hair Transplants on TikTok probably suggests a step forward. I find the article interesting and frustrating, especially with this quote from a doctor: “This transparency is exactly what’s needed to de-stigmatize hair loss, and show how common it is for men to lose their hair, while also providing hope that successful treatment is available and accessible”. TRANSPARENCY. DE-STIGMATIZE. We should normalize hair loss. Balding. It’s just a part of getting old. THERE’S NOTHING BOLD ABOUT DISCUSSING YOUR PROCEDURE! We as a society have normalized getting procedures done and I think we should stop normalizing getting work done. I’m cognizant these decisions are beyond individualized control because of our unrealistic beauty standards and the messages that we are fed and to stop blaming individuals and instead the systems at large. WHAT’S BOLD IS JUST AGING. Reading The Unpublishable has just makes me a really angry person when it comes to beauty culture.
This review of Gohar World at The Drift. // Depending on your tolerance for whimsy, Gohar’s installations either amplify the artful pleasures of nature’s endless bounty or tease out a compelling argument for a wealth tax.
Highly intrigued by Mansur Gavriel’s apple leather. I would like to see it in other styles. Way more affordable than Stella McCartney’s mycelium leather.
I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore starring Melanie Lynskey and Elijah Wood is giving me pre-Yellowjackets. It’s a very fun and odd movie and gives you the power of taking things in your own hands.
An impromptu scoop of Honey’s chocolate matzo toffee crunch. It was just ok, but the texture was really good. It’s a treat to have ice cream, but it’s a real treat to have ice cream alone and people watch and be in my own thoughts. I think people should really do things by themselves more especially for those in long term relationships where by default you generally do things with your partner, which is also really nice too.
No, Loblaws CEO Galen Weston Did Not “Earn” His Multimillion-Dollar Paycheck at Jacobin. // Weston’s exorbitant payout is a result of his position, which, in turn, is a knock-on effect of his inherited wealth. He possesses a share of the value produced by Loblaws’ workers and a monopoly over an essential good — purchased by many of those same workers.
A 12” veggie lover pizza from Slow South Pizza which I thought was just fine. The tomatoes had a bit of a metal taste which could have been resolved with some sugar. There was also the vegan tax of $3.50 just for vegan cheese. They charge $5.20 for the 18”. That is appalling. North of Brooklyn is the better option IMO and doesn’t charge for vegan cheese.
Two paltry glasses of wine at Paradise Grapevine for Queer Wine Night. It was about $14 a glass and I am sure it was about 3 ounces each. Those queers are ripping people off! Probably won’t go again because 1. the wait and 2. it’s just not worth it.
Nobody knows how to post about Mother’s Day at Embedded. I informed Daniel of this piece the morning it came out and he weighed in “not everything needs to be taken so seriously”. Honestly, this is why I am off social media. Inclusivity is a kill joy. JK, obviously I am pro-inclusivity. Context is key. // In recent years, as users on social media have become more and more aware of their audiences and attempt to be inclusive of every possible person viewing a post, Mother’s Day, ironically, has become more fraught online. Many people posting about the holiday simultaneously feel the need to reassure anyone who might feel triggered because they don’t have a mother or a child to celebrate.
Everything I want from Molly Baz’s collaboration with Crate&Barrel: these cups, these bowls, these plates, this mug, this trivet, these measuring cups, this utensil holder, these measuring spoons and lastly this ice bucket that screams I have disposable income.
The Throwing Fits dudes need to put a halt to disrupting their guests and Brenda Weischer is not having it. I am obsessed with her now. Did not know her before this. She is giving German straightforwardness.
Your boss is obsessed with productivity without knowing what it means at Vox. If this is your boss, please fine a new job!
In Mexico City, Club Kids Take the Stage at The NYTs. I love reading about club culture as someone who is not part of or participates in it. Maybe once a year you’ll find me at da clurb. Maybe…
Writing & Producing 'Bags' with Clairo and Rostam Batmanglij at Mix with the Masters. Immunity is such a good record. Sling, not so much. Sorry Jack Antonoff. Honestly, I think Clairo wouldn’t be where she is without the help of her dad who is/was? in positions of power in the music industry. #neopbaby
If you’re on the hunt for some artisanal spices, might I suggest Kampot peppers? Why Kampot White Pepper Is So Expensive at Business Insider.
The Blood Feud Brewing Inside Nom Wah Tea Parlor at Grub Street is the restauranteur drama we live for. I dined there once and not sure if I went for the history, the scene or the food. I thought it was good.
After Yang was fine. Aesthetically it’s A24. I think the screenplay could be explored further, but also appreciated its vagueness. The dialogue didn’t feel organic in how people actually talk. But that could have been intentional based on the pace of the movie.
The trailer for Meg 2: The Trench is so camp and leans so heavily on being so unserious that I think it will be great. The first one was stupid and fun. And I think this one will be so irreverent you can’t but watch.
Your favorite celebrity street style photo is probably an #ad at Fashionista. I question now if that viral image of Katie Holmes wearing a Khaite cardigan in August was all a PR stunt???
After 11 years in Toronto, I finally made it to Pacific Mall. I would probably not go again unless I was in the area. Which is never.
Have a great weekend!
