gays going east
still waiting on that logo… any day now… it could potentially arrive at the same time as the collapse of society
Salut! Bonjour!
Last week, it was gays going west. This week, we’re going east where the people don’t speak English and siblings get confused for couples. That’s right, we’re talking about francophones. Montreal to be exact.
Technically, I didn’t travel to eastern Canada because Toronto is already in that category. At least that’s what Google informed me. It gets confusing, but I won’t get into provincial politics, land borders and all that shit. I am here to tell you that I went east. Land of poutine (pronounced: poo-tin!) and a laissez-faire attitude to life, work, etc.
As of late, I ask myself daily why I live in Toronto. A few reasons being:
My attitude about work has always been “work to live and not live to work” which people here are enamoured by. People in Toronto define themselves by the work they do. It shouldn’t.
People here are generally conservative. Or as they like to say “fiscally conservative, but socially liberal” we’ve voted in a shit mayor and premiere
I don’t require a fast-paced city, but at minimum one of culture and ease. Everyone is biking/driving like their travel is more urgent than other people, we all have somewhere to go, might as well enjoy the journey. People just need to fucking relax and stop honking and shitting on the streets.
I feel like I should write an essay on this, but not the newsletter for it.
Ugh, hate to say it, but I should probably break up with Toronto.
Albeit, Montreal has its own hiccups:
I barely speak French even though it was a requirement up to grade 9
Smaller population
Winter is brutal, from what I am told
Summer is hot and humid, first hand knowledge
Lack of access to a large body of water
Montreal does offer better landscape with hills and elevated streets, visually appealing architecture and of course, copious green spaces.
Anyways, I was trying to provide you with a comparison. Did I do the trick? Ultimately, as people get older, people prioritize different things and maybe Montreal has what I need. Maybe.
I hope you enjoyed the journey. I hope you’re working less. I hope you’re having a glass of wine while reading this, or after.
Au revoir!
Perry
