Good Morning!
Today is a good day. This is the official ribbon cutting for my new logo. I wanted the design to be simple, fun and clean. Daniel designed my logo Sunday night because I desperately begged and pleaded and he couldn’t bear to see my sadness. We’re still building on additional collateral to make everything more cohesive. Hire him. I get a cut for every referral.
Sooo… after I wrote above I attempted to add the logo. However, there were sizing issues. For now, you can see it here and the icons!
This week did not start out well for Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and everything else FB has under its umbrella. It came to my attention, through a call from my (boomer) boss, that “all social media is down.” I felt nothing from that phone call. Apathetic, really. I even pondered why she bothered to call me in the first place considering my job does not surround social media. I did some research on Twitter about the outage and then went on with my work day like any other banal work day.
Feeling apathetic from Monday’s social media global outage didn’t happen overnight. At the beginning of July this summer, I took what I like to call a sabbatical from IG. I made the conscious decision to not use it indefinitely. I also made other arbitrary draconian rules for myself in the last couple years on how to have a healthy relationship with IG. Before that, I made another conscious decision to only use it 1 hour a day. And even before that (last one I promise), I vowed to not use it on weekends.
At this very moment, I will only actively use it on Wednesday’s and Thursday’s. With a time limit, of course.
One of the main arguments I make for taking a break from social media was my threshold to consume content in a world that’s perpetually hostile. And through social media, the messages are being projected ad nauseam. As one world event erupts, there goes a post about things you are not doing and you end up feeling shitty about yourself. This gets repeated after each event, which is happening more frequently. And we leave no time for discourse, critical thinking or evaluation because there’s already something else that has taken precedence.
I understand the value in social media and its objective to speed up issues at hand, but there’s other tangible actions you can take other than virtue signaling. Take the time to sign petitions, donate financially (what you can) and contact your politicians. These are the people who are creating policy and who can enact real change. They work for their constituents. Us.
In addition to that, I think we’re all just too fucking dependent on social media. Cut that shit.
Facebook and Instagram was designed to keep you on the app longer. It will not benefit them if they teach you how to have a healthy relationship with social media because that does not bring monetary value. Unfortunately, you’ll have to learn how to self-regulate your use. Try a sabbatical?
This weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving and it is another foolish holiday that should be abolished. Considering the damage that colonialism has done and still do to Indigenous peoples. Also, Thanksgiving food is gross and boring.

I watched about 4-5 episodes of Sex Education and then moved on to Squid Game. As much as I love the casting, everyone looks like they should be starting entry-level positions. I will return to SE after I finish Squid Game. But then also Succession comes out. I am trying not to binge watch shows, so it is taking longer than usual.
The most talked about show should be Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but instead it is Squid Game. As soon as I layed eyes on Hoyeon Jung, I felt like she didn’t fit the profile of a defector pick-pocketer. After much research, see #10. Otherwise, the concept of the show is nothing new, but entertaining nonetheless.
Over the weekend, we went to Hamilton to shop for houses. And by we, I mean them. And by them, I mean my friends. Would you like an invite to their housewarming?
I suggested Rosewood Estates Winery after Hamilton considering its proximity. And just because it was 25 degrees in October. One flight of wine turned into two bottles to go.
And on the ride back, we wanted Hutch’s On The Beach, which seemed like an open secret of a restaurant in the area. The line was too long so we ended up at Harvey’s! My favourite Canadian fast food joint. To fellow Americans, you may have heard it on How I Met Your Mother?
My first time putting a t shirt under a vest and I feel fancy? See: #4
To my vegetarians and vegans, Alicia Kennedy (who I discovered through Haley Nahman), wrote this week on her newsletter about the ethics of consuming an invasive species in pursuit of environmentalism. I have thoughts and maybe soon I’ll write about why I became vegan.
Mitski’s new song and video, Working for the Knife, is so good it hurts. March 18 at Massey Hall. Anyone?
I got Henry new spiral plastic toys and he is enamoured.
HoYeon Jung for W Magazine. Do you think writing Squid Game one more time will help my SEO?
Here is my attempt at making new (gay) friends as an adult. Is that a good subject for a future newsletter? Will you pay me to teach a class?
I think I am coming with a cold? Just in time for the long weekend!
