Greetings from hell,
Last week I was in bed recovering from a death-adjacent fever that I would only wish on Doug Ford. I tested four times for covid and it all came back negative. I took a week off work, but there was nothing enjoyable about the experience. I didn’t have the energy to even binge some bad TV.
By Saturday, I was feeling like myself again and was able to go on a light walk. I was able to eat food that wasn’t toast. Then, by Monday evening, I was experiencing a deja vu.
This week, I finally tested positive for covid and life just keeps on giving. I do wonder if it was actually just covid all along. I am tired. I have a sore throat. I am coughing. I am lethargic. But I do have some mental clarity to write a few sentences this week. I am fully stocked on coconut water and gatorade for week 2.

Shoutout to Daniel for taking any and all requests from a sick adult baby. He’s sick now too (in week 2) and patting myself on the back for being an unregistered nurse.
While sick, finally listened to Lykke Li’s EYEYE album in its entirety. It’s a solid album that I think should have gotten more exposure. A few days later, I got an email that the Toronto show is canceled. Hit me while I am down Li.
I know I don’t fit the target demographic, but I completed the final episode of The Boys while sick in bed. I don’t love it and I don’t hate it. But I know I don’t have the bandwidth to analyze it any further. I did like that they filmed in Toronto.
This was a DELIGHT and I didn’t think I could laugh so hard when I had 103.5 F body temp. (Don’t ask me why my thermometer was on the imperial system. It just was.)
Some food I requested that I think still beats hospital food any day: toast (no vegan butter, the butter made me sick), oatmeal with maple syrup, cooked rice in cold water (it did the trick), dried mangoes, pho, coconut water and lots of gatorade.
The Agony of an Early Case of Monkeypox at The New Yorker. The speed at which this is being tackled head on is reminiscent of the AIDS crisis. LGBTQ+ people will always be second class citizens to government. // The U.S. had allowed twenty-eight million vaccine doses in its strategic national stockpile to expire.
This is why I don’t trust celebrity backed ventures. That and mega clubs. The tea is very good. A Tea-Spilling Lawsuit Upends a Hell’s Kitchen Gay Club at The Cut.
I will say this again, I will always prefer a vegetable based burger over a beyond or impossible burger. It’s Time to Put Actual Veggies Back Into Veggie Burgers at Eater. Of course, beyond or impossible wasn’t designed for veggie/vegans, but omnivores.

Daniel thinks this is a frivolous purchase:
Have you met the latest “ecosystem engineers”? That title is so cute I could die! Beavers are heat wave heroes at Vox.
Sohla and Ham are back with Mystery Menu and while what they made was gross and I don’t think I could have made it any better, it was still fun to watch.

Proud owner of a microplane. I have complaining for years how this recipe would be amazing if I just had a microplane. Lemons, limes, garlic, ginger, anything!
Jurassic World Dominion which did not bring the excitement or the logic. It relied on too many references to the first original film and everyone was rescued by being in the right place at the right time. Review: wish I could unsee.
If your spending is eating your savings, you might be experiencing 'lifestyle creep' at NPR. I felt it this month.
Binged an insane amount of Mina Le’s videos while laying horizontally. I have a parasocial relationship with her now.
All photos I have taken have literally just been pictures of Henry providing elusive emotional support:
How do I get a refund for missing summer last week and this week? You know that feeling when you’ve been sick for so long you forget what it’s like to be healthy? I have that feeling. What is it like on the other side?
Perry
I think the only way you can get a summer refund is taking vacation early fall and hoping the weather stays nice.
Get well soon and much love from Whitby !
Love Mina Le videos!
Glad you're feeling better!
