Highly recommend this song while reading this chaotic note.
I received an email a few weeks ago that my digital subscription to New York Magazine is up for renewal. I considered renewal (at $35USD = $47CAD, the math isn’t mathing???) but at this current rate of unemployment that money could be spent on this cordless hair clipper because mine has been making questionable noises for a few months now. I should probably just purchase it so I can stop thinking about it. But I don’t want to purchase something for the sake of purchasing when technically mine works just fine. Same with the air fryer. I want to buy a new one because I need a bigger one but again, the air fryer is not broken. It still crisps tofu just fine. I don’t want to contribute to waste until aforementioned products are ready to die. Yes, I have had to adjust my lifestyle based on my finances like impulsively purchasing five bottles of wine when I couldn’t afford it. It was on sale and I will eventually need to buy wine anyway for holidays. At least this is really good wine. Wines not at the LCBO. What I am saying is I am canceling my NYM subscription this weekend before the renewal. I will spend that money probably, eventually at Canadaland.
On the topic of the US of A, the way that Americans participate in Thanksgiving is borderline insanity. Thanksgiving in Canada was over a month ago and it was pretty uneventful. Boring. I don’t even consider it a holiday. I just see it as a day off, that is if you are employed! My opinion on holidays hasn’t changed much which is that I don’t care for them because of how capitalistic every holiday has become. What I do love about the holidays is food. And wine. And socializing. Here to report that it feels like my subscribed YouTube channels colluded to go bat shit crazy this year on Thanksgiving food content. The general theme seems to be that the perfect mashed potatoes recipe requires a blend of yukon gold and russet. This might be controversial, but I like it chunky with the skin on. I also just don’t care for Thanksgiving food in general. I don’t remember the last time I had Thanksgiving food. When my parents stopped cooking turkey on Thanksgiving growing up and switched to just cooking Cambodian food, everyone was happier for it. Why am I even talking about Thanksgiving? Because American media is inescapable north of the border.
I’m in the market for MSG. Everything you know about MSG is wrong. I made fried rice yesterday and I was like, wish I had MSG. Next time I’m at the Asian store.
Every time something bad happens on a grand scale in the world (which frankly right now is a lot and too much) I generally think of Lisa Simpson wishing for world peace. I am naively Lisa Simpson.
It’s Time to Log Off at WIRED. LOT’S OF REALLY GOOD QUOTES. I do think we can be more impactful locally, as someone with no influence on the geo-political scale. // If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the news, Teachman says it’s important to consider what your values are and how you can act on those values in your daily life. Think about who you want to be and what you want to accomplish. This can focus your mind when you’re feeling overwhelmed.
Final chaotic note, the inundated newsletters, emails, notifications about all the shit I could buy on Black Friday. I want it all and nothing at the same time. I am Marissa Cooper throwing a lounge chair (my phone) in the pool (against a wall).
This bottle of wine is many things: vegan, organic, cute packaging, low intervention, Fair for Life, $23.95. What this is not is wine that should cost that much. I would say $16, max. I recall it being kind of flat.
